France seizes another Russian shadow fleet vessel

Yesterday, France has seized a Russian shadow fleet vessel, in the Atlantic Ocean, around 400 nautical miles outside the French coast of Brittany. The Russian-owned vessel Tagor was flying a flag from Madagascar and had loaded oil from the the Russian port of Murmansk.

The vessel is now being escorted to a French military harbour.

This is not the first time that France has seized sanctioned Russian vessels this year as it stepped up its enforcement campaign along with other European countries such as Sweden. Meanwhile, the UK has suspended some of its sanctions against Russian oil in an attempt to mitigate price shocks as a result of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Last week, Russia injured two Romanian citizens with a drone that fell on an apartment complex in Galati, Romania.

French President Emmanuel Macron said that “It is unacceptable for ships to circumvent international sanctions, violate the law of the sea, and fund the war that Russia has been waging against Ukraine for more than 4 years. ”
