The Ukrainian city of Kostiantynivka, in the Donbas region, remains contested, with heavy fighting still ongoing on the outskirts despite premature claims by Vladimir Putin that the city has been captured. The Ukrainian Armed Forces have also rejected a Russian ceasefire proposal for the city.
Vladimir Putin is currently struggling to produce positive announcements about the war, as fuel shortages at home stoke disappointment and anger among the general population. The Russian dictator also needs positive announcements ahead of the scheduled State Duma elections in September.
Meanwhile, Russia continued its daily streak of war crimes by bombing civilians in Kyiv with ballistic missiles. Yesterday, at least one civilian was killed due to Russian drone attacks on the city of Zaporizhzhia. Last night Russia launched dozens of missiles and up to 129 drones at Ukrainian cities and civilians.
