When Yorgen Fenech was first arrested, he made implicit threats, saying that “the truth will come out.” Apart from trying to place the blame entirely on Chris Cardona for the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, Yorgen Fenech has also implied several times that he is ready to bring the whole house down with him if he loses the case.
It is very interesting to see how this would unfold, given that one of Yorgen Fenech’s main lawyers, Charles Mercieca—the former prosecutor/turncoat who joined Yorgen Fenech’s defence team for an annual payment of €1 million—is the son of a Labour Party Member of Parliament. Even more interestingly, this particular Labour MP, Franco Mercieca, is a close friend of Joseph Muscat.
Note that the Labour Party has even been promoting Charles Mercieca as a “renowned lawyer”.
Ultimately, it is not in the Labour government’s interests for Yorgen Fenech to testify, and it is certainly not in the interests of Keith Schembri or the disgraced former prime minister, Joseph Muscat. Charles Mercieca is supposedly serving Yorgen Fenech and protecting his interests, but those interests clearly conflict with those of the political family and group to which he belongs.
