Reuters has published a report quoting US government officials as saying that Iranian officials informed them that recent attacks by Iranian forces against vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz were not authorised and were carried out by rogue elements within their forces.
Hostilities in the Persian Gulf have now ceased.
At the NATO Summit, US President Donald Trump said that he no longer trusts Iranian regime officials now that he has got to know them. US officials are also demanding Iran to issue a statement that safe passage will be granted to all commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
Qatar and Pakistan are now trying to mediating between the US and Iran according to several press reports. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has also travelled to Oman for talks on maritime passage in the Strait of Hormuz.
Oil fell back to around $70โ71 per barrel (WTI) following the news, after having risen slightly to $74.
