Yesterday at the NATO Summit, US President Donald Trump announced that he will be urging Congress to remove Syria from the designation of State Sponsor of Terrorism list. The US President also praised the Syrian leadership for unifying the country and bringing stability.
The announcement marked the visit of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa to the NATO Summit, an unusual and remarkable presence following the ousting of the dictator Bashar al-Assad. The new pledge by US President Donald Trump also follows the removal of US sanctions on Syria.
The Syrian President’s visit to the NATO Summit followed a visit by French President Emmanuel Macron to Syria where he signed agreements on investment relating to Syria’s reconstruction. These steps are also being made with opposition from Israel’s side which is currently illegally occupying parts of southern Syria.
