According to the latest NSO publication of HICP records, inflation came at 2% for the month of June, slightly higher than the 1.9% initial estimate. However, inflation effects remain lagging with the renewed war in the Persian Gulf.
The inflationary trends remained the same in Malta with restaurants and catering establishments leading inflation higher followed by food products and transport.
Malta’s inflation rate remained lower than the Euro area’s at 2.8% for the month of May according to Eurostat. Inflation rates in the Euro area were highest in Romania, Lithuania and Bulgaria with energy and being the top items increasing inflation.
