Yesterday in Parliament, the Opposition presented a motion of no-confidence against Energy Minister Miriam Dalli. The Nationalist Party is also calling for her to resign.
Minister Dalli had nothing to say about the ongoing electricity outages, which have left homes without power for hours and even days on end, other than her banal statement that this Labour government has invested more than any previous government in the electricity distribution system.
The Prime Minister apologised for the ongoing blackouts and said that they are being caused in parts of the electricity grid which had not yet been updated. Minister Miriam Dalli had first announced hey programme to upgrade the electricity grid in February 2022. Most of Malta has been hit with electricity cuts with many suffering the cuts for long hours and days on end.
Minister Dalli also said that residences with electricity cuts were provided with temporary solutions but her statement was quickly contradicted by Opposition MPs.
