Garbage in and garbage out

The very horrible accusations of rape brought against Franklin J. Aquilina should serve as a serious wake-up call to take the diplomatic service seriously instead of using it as a desk office for Labour bażużli and appointees. Labour has successfully abused the diplomatic service as a dumping ground for its friends, obviously marring any tangible and good results that could potentially be achieved with the right professionals and experienced personnel.

Franklin Aquilina is married and has a daughter – this would make his crimes even more obscene if he is found guilty. He denies the charges.

However, let’s be honest. Franklin Aquilina should have never become ambassador. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2013 and quickly rose through the ranks for no reason at all other than his association with the Labour Party. From a simple government desk job, he eventually became a consul and then Malta’s Ambassador to Palestine before being sent to Libya – a very complex post that requires individuals with experience, knowledge of the Arabic language and also a deep knowledge of local and regional affairs – he had none of these attributes.

The new Foreign Minister should begin by replacing the garbage in the ranks with actual professionals instead of allowing the diplomatic gravy train to go on for Labour’s bażużli. He can start with the dentist who apparently is still Malta’s ambassador to Rwanda (Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando).
