Foreign Affairs Minister Chris Fearne continued his diplomatic engagements in New York following a visit to Malta House yesterday ahead of the Untied Nations General Assembly.
On Monday, Foreign Affairs Minister Chris Fearne signed a joint communiqué with Zimbabwean Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Amon Murwira formally establishing diplomatic relations between Malta and Zimbabwe for the first time. The agreement opens a new channel for bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Minister Murwira has been using Zimbabwe’s presence at the UN General Assembly to promote the country’s foreign-policy message that “Zimbabwe is open for business”, with Harare seeking to attract greater international investment and expand trade, tourism and economic ties. Zimbabwe is also preparing to take up a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2027–2028 term.
Minister Fearne also held a meeting with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola at Dar Malta in New York on Monday, with an official photograph of the meeting released today.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Robert Abela visited members of the Maltese community in New York and released a promotional video documenting the visit.
