The new Labour Party’s economics is similar to Peronism
The new trend of Labour Party economics isn’t new and neither innovative. Direct subsidies have been the common feature of Third-World economies where there is a wide discrepancy between the average and minimum salaries and the cost of living. That a government needs to issue subsidies is also a sign of the weakness of the…

The new Maltese socialism is macroeconomics: Labour is turning the welfare-state into crony capitalism
The Labour Party’s new social contract will make banks and construction developers significantly richer. Society’s wealth is increasingly being transferred to the construction industry with banks being indirect recipients of this wealth transfer. Labour is presenting its subsidies as traditional socialist welfare, but underlying this façade there is this transfer of wealth turning the subsidies…

I am corrupt because I am not a communist – Minister Roderick Galdes
It’s always communism to blame when a corrupt politician is accused of enriching themselves exponentially during the time they held public office. Social Housing Minister Roderick Galdes accumulated a significant property portfolio as a government Minister because he is a free-market aficionado and not a communist. However, he reiterated that the Labouer government is socialist…

An era that is no more
Somehow, Cuba remains standing as one of the last relics of totalitarian communism, yet it still appears as if it is fading away into its history as it slowly comes out of its shell. In a recent post, Evarist Bartolo extolled the virtues of the socialist writer ?u?e…

A reply to Sammy Meilaq: the last socialist who didn’t sell his soul
Yesterday, of course, I watched Jon Mallia’s premier of his podcast with Sammy Meilak. I am pretty sure I am going to make many readers angry with this post. For those who don’t know me, I have always been fascinated by how Malta against all odds developed economically from a poor and miserable country to…

Rekindling Labour’s socialism
A lackey par excellence. A lapdog of lapdogs. An unashamed apologist for criminals and organised crime. A hypocrite and an unprincipled moron. But he is also a socialist, admittedly. Maybe, a bad socialist, but if provided with autonomy and freedom, he is still capable of empathy and this is something that Robert Abela is totally…

Lectures on socialism
The Finance Minister, Clyde Caruana has taken to lecturing us about socialism after gracing the working class with Labour’s benevolent COLA increase. The grandstanding is impressive for a newcomer. It’s his first budget and the red flags have already been hoisted in South Street, only that Clyde mistakes giving out money to the poor for…

The collapse of the socialist front
When in 2014, Emmanuel Macron became President of France, Macron brought with him hope for a new revival of the European left as the Europe’s economy was slowing down into a crisis. Macron failed to change anything in France, risked bringing the country into the hands of far-right maniacs, and now, is going against the…
