Trouble is brewing for Bashar al-Assad

As Bashar al-Assad replaces Hezbollah and Iranian proxies that were fighting in northern Syria with his own tatters of an army, unverified reports were published that the Islamic group Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HST or Tahrir al-Sham) are preparing for a new offensive against Assad’s troops.

Other reports have stated that the Israeli Defence Forces have made a 500 metre incursion into Syria in the Golan Heights, west of Kudna where they are building a buffer zone. There were no reported push-backs from the Syrian Army against the IDF. The IDF has been bombing areas across Syria’s border every day last week and Syria has also not responded to Israel’s bombing of Maher al-Assad’s compound outside of Damascus.

Meanwhile, unverified reports were published that senior officers from the Syrian Army officers and the Iranian IRGC were killed in US airstrikes in, Kurdish held-territory. Deir Ezzor. These airstrikes took place following an attack on a US base in Conoco gas field in Deir Ezzor.

Bashar al-Assad has held control over his country thanks to Hezbollah and Iranian proxies who have now withdrawn to fight in Lebanon. Following multiple attacks on high-profile targets in Syria, Iran’s military capabilities in the country are diminishing. This creates a power vacuum in Syria that will likely be contested by different military factions. Bashar al-Assad is still being backed by Russia with both personnel, fighter jets and equipment on the ground.
