Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo resigns: no sign of the Prime Minister’s hand so far

Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo has submitted his letter of resignation to the Prime Minister earlier this morning. So far, there has been co confirmation that his resignation was prompted by pressure from the Prime Minister. The previous Tourism Minister is also under police investigation.

Prime Minister Robert Abela defended Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo claiming that eventually he dismissed his wife from her consultancy position after he found out about. However, her consultancy position within the government could only have been approved by his previous Chief of Staff Glenn Micallef, who is now European Commissioner for Youth and Culture.

Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri, who awarded the consultancy position to the Minister’s wife within his Ministry has not tendered his resignation. Both Ministers have been found guilty of breaching ethics by the Standards Commissioner and the Parliamentary Standards Committee.
