In what seems to be Prime Minister’s Robert Abela most dictatorial move yet, the Prime Minister announced he is to reform the law on magisterial inquiries to prevent Jason Azzopardi from filing further inquiries. Abela made the announcement after Jason Azzopardi revealed a scandal earlier today and vowed to request a magisterial inquiry about it.
Earlier today, Jason Azzopardi claimed that the Minister of Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri is involved in a jobs racket at this ministry that is managed by his wife, Deborah Camilleri. Jason Azzopardi is claiming that Deborah Azzopardi received money in exchange for granting jobs in Gozo including port jobs at Mġarr. Jason Azzopardi also claimed that Deborah Camilleri has been going to Court doing her own private cases instead of actually going to work at her public job at Transport Malta.
I find it hard to believe that Clint Camilleri and his wife are taking money for jobs in the public secotr. The Ministry of Gozo is one of the most corrupt ministries in Malta, handing out multiple jobs and cotnracts as political gifts and potronage to Gozitan constituents. The situation is so jarring and corrupt that half of the Gozitan working population is actually employed with the government, forcing the other hard-working and honest half who work in the private sector to pay and subsidise the lifestyle of the other half that works with the government. There is no shame about the corruption of the Ministry of Gozo: just today The Shift News announced that Saviour Balzan of MaltaToday is being paid by the Ministry of Gozo to serve as its propogandist.
Clint Camilleri is a little bit rich: he was bestowed with a large inheritance from his family. I find it hard to believe that his wife is taking small cash-kickbacks for public jobs. The Deborah Camilleri has a fake public job and is earning a salary for doing nothing is highly probable. That Minister Clint Camilleri is engaging in corruption by handing out public funds as political patronage is undoubtedly evident and true and a Magisterial Inquiry would be in order.
