Prime Minister Robert Abela announced his new reform about Magisterial Inquiries with the main point of the reform being that requests for Magisterial Inquiries won’t be possible before a Police report is submitted and six months pass without any result in the investigations. The Minister for Justice Jonathan Attard was also present at the press conference.
The Prime Minister promised the reform after Jason Azzopardi filed various requests for Magisterial Inquiries with the the Prime Minister accusing Jason Azzopardi of abusing the justice system. Major investigations on the corruption of the previous Labour administrations were only made possible with Magisterial Inquiries.
The drafting of the law is being handled by the Justice Minister and the Cabinet has not been consulted about it. Ministers claim to have been left in the dark about the law.
