Yesterday evening, students in Belgrade gathered to protest once again the lack of rule-of-law and the government’s capture of state institutions. Protests also took place in Novi Sad where the train-station tragedy that ignited the protests took place. Protests had also been ongoing previously after the incumbent ruling-party rigged the general elections.
Students are demanding a general strike to start next week which is being supported by teachers’ unions in Novi Sad, but major pro-government unions are refusing to participate.
Serbia’s protest movement is being lead by students and civil society as the Opposition is fragmented and divided.
