Magistrate Nadine Lia, who has a “Tagħna Lkoll” background, is currently taking the government’s side in a case instituted by Repubblika over the lack of action by the Police over the Pilatus Bank scandal. Leaked documents acquired by Repubblika and Robert Aquilina show that the Police actively sought ways to avoid investigating Pilatus Bank and its owners.
Magistrate Nadine Lia has taken a very particular approach to this case. Instead of addressing the arguments and concerns brought by the plaintiff, the Magistrate has begun a clamp-down on the whistleblower that leaked the documents to Robert Aquilina.
The Magistrate is not alone in attempting to identify Robert Aquilina’s whistleblower. The Labour government is also making similar efforts, using its channels to communicate with members of the judiciary and relevant authorities, such as the Police and the Attorney General, to locate the potential whistleblower.
There are various channels of communication between the Labour government and the judiciary, but one illicit channel specifically used for pro-Labour efforts is the line of communication involving between Labour and Judge Consuelo Scerri Herrera through the Labour lawyer Edward Gatt. On the other hand, I can not confirm whether Magistrate Nadine Lia is in contact with Judge Herrera, but it may be no coincidence that both government sources and Magistrate Nadine Lia are currently and actively searching for Robert Aquilina’s whistleblower.
Previously, Prime Minister Robert Abela admitted to be in communication with a Magistrate as he pressured the judiciary to give harsher sentences to criminals. The Maltese Herald confirmed that Prime Minister Robert Abela was in communication through WhatsApp with Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech. Judge Consuelo Scerri Herrera is also a close friend of Magistrate Donatella Dimech and they occasionally dine and party together. They were recently spotted together, late in the evening drinking at a bar near the Courts building.
