Paris Emergency Meeting discusses European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine: German Chancellor leaves the room

The emergency meeting in Paris held yesterday evening between pro-Ukraine European leaders revolved around the proposal of European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine with the aim of committing to long-term security guarantees in Europe. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz left the meeting when discussions touched this subject saying Germany disagrees holding discussions about European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine.

European leaders are no longer discussing the prospect of Ukraine joining NATO: the United States, Hungary and Slovakia oppose the proposal. Sweden and the United Kingdom have so far been the only European countries to pledge to send their troops to Ukraine as a security-guarantee. President Macron already made the same pledge last year. There has been nothing definitive about these talks as President Zelensky is refusing to entertain any immediate capitulation plan the US wants to impose on Ukraine. The Ukrainians are still fighting the Russian Army in the region of Donbas inflicting on the Russians record losses.

President Macron spoke to President Trump following the meeting in Paris and then spoke to President Zelensky who is currently in Turkey for talks with President Erdogan. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is in Saudi Arabia to meet with Russian Foreign Minister.
