Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave an informal briefing right before midnight informing Ukrainians with the latest updates about ongoing talks with the US administration and European leaders.
President Zelensky started the speech by saying that the Ukrainian military holds positions in key directions and then gave an update about Ukraine’s international talks.
President Zelensky stated that he is working with European leaders over a European plan for peace and security guarantees and said that this plan “should be done with America” clearly implying that Ukraine is backing Europe over the US for any future peace proposals brought to the diplomatic table. He concluded his briefing by saying that he is discussing with the US administration the details over President Trump’s proposal to own Ukraine’s mineral rights. President Zelensky stated that this deal would help Ukraine gain better relations with the US, implying that it will not effect potential negotiations between Europe and Russia. Ukraine initially refused to sign the mineral rights deal during the Munich Security Conference and rejected any attempts by the US to force Ukraine to capitulate via its bilateral talks with Russia. Talks between the US and Russia are now exclusively focused on bilateral issues and sanctions and not about Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Reuters is reporting that the US administration is blackmailing President Zelensky to sign a mineral rights deal by threatening him to shut down Ukraine’s access to Starlink. Starlink is used in Ukraine by the Ukrainian Armed Forces and is essential for their defense operations. The US Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg is in Kyiv to discuss the details of the agreement. A press conference between the Special Envoy and President Zelensky was yesterday called-off after discussions led to no agreement.
Back in the US, President Trump is on a media tour bashing President Zelensky and blaming him for the war. President Trump is prioritising Russia’s interests over Ukraine and is also considering to pull out US troops from Europe as part of his proposals to appease Russia.
