Hungary’s special envoy for the Sahel, Máthé László Eduárd, has dismissed The Maltese Herald‘s article about the Hungarian military presence in Chad as “fake news”.
In January, Hungarian troops were present in Chad with the Chadian military in a border demarcation exercise with the Libyan National Army that started from the Chad-Libya-Sudan triangle and ended at the north-western of the country. Hungarian troops are already making use of the previously-run French base in Faya-Largeu. The story has also been confirmed by diplomatic sources and eyewitness accounts.
