France signs agreement with Denmark guaranteeing its sovereignty and borders

In what seems to be an underreported event in the English-speaking press, last week France and Denmark signed a strategic cooperation agreement in which France guaranteed Denmark’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. In a press statement following the signing of the agreement French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said that “Nothing justifies the pressure the United States is putting on Denmark today. It’s unjustifiable and unjustified.”

This is the first time in history that two NATO-European countries signed a defence agreement that was prompted from threats by their major NATO ally, the United states. The US is currently threatening Denmark over Greenland which it insists it will annex for “international security” and for its natural resources. All major political parties in Greenland are against this aggressive move and prefer independence over being part of either the US or Denmark.

The French press also reported that Denmark has ordered up to 1,000 French Mistral 3 anti-air missiles.

The Danish King Frederik X, accompanied by his wife, Queen Mary and the Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen visited France last week and the agreements were signed between the foreign ministers of the two countries.
