Day six of the Blackball Nations Cup in Bridlington saw Malta shine once again, with several teams putting in strong performances across intense matchups. The standout achievement came from the Men’s A Team, who secured a place in the semi-finals after finishing second in the group standings.
The team, led by Clevion Micallef, was dominant in both of their matches on the day—beating Mauritius A 15-10 and overwhelming Belgium with a commanding 21-4 victory.
Meanwhile, the Men’s B Team also impressed, notching two solid wins: 18-7 over Ireland B1 and 17-8 against England B1. Despite their momentum, they fell short against England B, losing 15-10 in a closely contested match.
In the Seniors category, Malta A enjoyed a productive day with back-to-back wins against Australia A (19-6) and Gibraltar A (16-9). However, they were edged out by England A with a 16-9 defeat. The Seniors B Team faced tougher opposition, suffering losses to England B (20-5) and Scotland B (15-10).
Elsewhere, the Masters A Team played a single match against England, where they were defeated 17-8.
In the blackball individual competition, Leon Azzopardi made an impressive run to the semi-finals, showing great skill and composure throughout the tournament. His journey ended there, however, with a 6-3 loss to Stuart McCulloch.
With the Men’s A Team heading into the semifinals, Malta remains firmly in contention for top honours at the Nations Cup. The team’s consistent performances are a testament to the growing strength of Maltese cue sports on the international stage.
