Secretary Marco Rubio says US may pull out of Ukraine-Russia “peace talks” after France refuses to give in to US demands

Before leaving Paris, Secretary of State Marco Rubio gave an interview to the press and was quoted by Sky News as saying that the US may withdraw from its “peace talks” between Ukraine and Russia if there is no alignment “between frameworks”.

The US Secretary of state Marco Rubio was in Paris, accompanied by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, to demand President Emmanuel Macron withdraw his military support to Ukraine until “peace talks” are over. The US wants Ukraine to cede its lost territory to Russia apart from  direct access to its mineral resources. President Zelensky recently reiterated that giving up Ukrainian territory is a red-line and won’t happen.

Attempts by the US to force Ukraine to capitulate to Russia have failed as the US made Ukrainian capitulation as a top priority for their imposed “peace talks” between Ukraine and Russia.

On sanctions, the US State Secretary has said that Europe still has sanctions on Russia and recognises that Europeans have a stake on what happens in their continent, but ended by saying that the US wants to find a peaceful resolution.

Russia has invaded and illegally occupied Ukrainian territory since 2014, and launched a full-scale military invasion in 2022. Since then, more than 100,000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed. Russia has shown total contempt for US-imposed peace talks, continuing to rain bombs and drones on Ukrainian civilians daily, even while negotiations were underway. It is also currently engaged in ethnic cleansing in the occupied territories by forcing Ukrainians to exchange their passports for Russian ones.
