Trump meets Meloni at the White House: refuses to blame Russia for its invasion of Ukraine

In a meeting with Italy’s Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, at the White House, President Trump refused to blame Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. He recently blamed Ukraine for Russia’s invasion during a meeting with El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele.

President Trump praised the Italian Premier, but the meeting itself was uneventful. Following her meeting with the President, the Italian Premier met with Elon Musk.

At the same time, US delegation in Paris, composed of Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, met with President Emmanuel Macron. The US delegation urged France to withhold its support for Ukraine until negotiations between the US and Russia are concluded. The US is pushing for Ukraine to capitulate to Russia’s demands and to sign a mineral rights agreement that would grant the US access to Ukraine’s natural resources.

France is currently stepping up and filling gaps left by the US who are gradually withdrawing their support for Ukraine. President Trump is also refusing to sell Ukraine Patriot missiles which would be helpful in saving civilian lives from Russian attacks, but the US are prioritising a mineral rights deal instead.
