Following the Prime Minister’s recent comments about the general election, The Maltese Herald has taken a look at the prospective candidates for the 2027 general election. The Nationalist Party has been periodically announcing a series of new candidates. The Labour Party, meanwhile, has not yet announced any new candidates, but our sources have indicated potential new names that Labour is expected to present in the upcoming election.
Here is the list.
Nationalist Party (PN) Candidates

Andrew Agius
A veterinary surgeon by profession, Agius is married and is a father of two.
Luke Said
Luke Said is a young Gozitan activist and scientist, Said is contesting on the 13th District.
Duncan Borg Myatt
Lawyer and club president of Gudja United FC since 2018, Borg Myatt is contesting the 4th District.
Michael Piccinino
Former PN Secretary General, Piccinino stepped down to contest the election after overseeing key electoral gains.
Ludwig Cauchi
Contesting on the 8th District, Cauchi is married and lives in Lija.
Marilena Gauci
A singer and Vice President of MEIA, Gauci holds a Master’s in Behavioural Economics and is the daughter of former Għargħur Mayor Helen Gauci.

A veteran investigative journalist from Attard, Borg produces and hosts “Kuntatt” and “Opinjoni” on Net TV and previously ran for MEP.

A Gozitan professional and former MEP candidate, Camilleri leads national and European speech-language associations and champions vulnerable groups.
Beppe Galea
A strategic communications expert from Rabat, Gozo, Galea is PN’s International Secretary and a former EU parliamentary assistant and journalist.
Frank Anthony Tabone
A Gozitan lawyer specialized in AML, financial crime, and EU law, Tabone holds multiple qualifications including a Diploma in Criminology and Policing. Frank Anthony Tabone was a Police Inspector with the Piolice’s Financial Crimes Investigation Department.
Labour Party (PL) Candidates
Ramona Attard
A lawyer and former propogandist with ONE, Attard served as Labour Party president and was co-opted into Parliament in 2025.
Yasmin Marie Hamilton
A lawyer with a Master’s in Advocacy and diploma in criminology, Hamilton also helps run her father’s, travelling agency. Her father, Norman Hamilton, is a popular Labour Party propogandist (broadcaster). She addressed this year’s PL Annual General Conference.
Steve Ellul
Former CEO of Project Green and Infrastructure Malta, Ellul is a financial expert and lecturer who also ran as an MEP candidate in 2024.
Stephanie Fabri
Stephanie Fabri is an economist and lecturer at the University of Malta. She is a member of several government and public boards and she regularly writes articles in the press praising the government’s policies.
