Malta to recognise Palestinian State at UN Conference with France and the UK

Earlier today, Malta’s Prime Minister and Labour Party Leader, Robert Abela, announced that Malta will be recognising the State of Palestine at a United Nations Conference on June 20th. The recognition is planned to coincide with recognition of the State of Palestine by France and the UK at the United Nations High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution in New York on the 17th – 20th June.

Durign his speech, Prime Minister Abela also offered Dr. Alaa and Dr Hamdi al-Najjar, asylum in Malta. Alaa and Hamdi al-Najjar are a couple of Palestinian pediatricians who work at the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis. Yesterday, Israel killed nine of their ten children in an airstrike against their home.
