The second turtle nest of the 2025 nesting season has been discovered at Għadira Bay. The nest was spotted by attentive volunteers from Nature Trust – FEE Malta, who acted quickly to ensure the site was protected. This follows the discovery of the season’s first nest just a day earlier at Ġnejna Bay, marking a promising start to the 2025 turtle nesting season.
Following the report, the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) and Nature Trust Malta arrived on site to secure the area and implement necessary conservation measures.
This latest find is another encouraging sign in the ongoing efforts to protect the endangered loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta), which depends on safe, quiet beaches to nest and hatch successfully.
Authorities continue to urge the public to stay vigilant and responsible during nesting season. Anyone who sees turtle activity or discovers a potential nest is encouraged to call ERA at 22923500 or Nature Trust Malta at 99999505.
Every report plays a crucial role in helping protect this vulnerable species and support its recovery in the region.
