As pointed out in our previous article here, the Nationalist Party intended to publicly call out the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola to take on the leadership of the Nationalist Party. This public pressure on her has already begun, even by the Nationalist Party Leader himself. A number of PN MPs have also made these calls for Roberta Metsola through the Times of Malta.
It’s probably now or never for the European Parliament President to take on the leadership of the Nationalist Party. The Nationalist Party is growing increasingly frustrated with Roberta Metsolaโs abandonment of any intention to become party leader. Her absence is undermining any potential PN leader, as none can live up to the publicโs expectations of having Metsola at the helm. This frustration will grow even further if Alex Borg is allowed to take over the Nationalist Party, as she will be held responsible for allowing the party to degenerate at the expense of her own career.
She wonโt be looked upon kindly by her colleagues or party members if she passes on this responsibility, which is far more a duty than an opportunity for her. Therese Comodini Cachia lost a lot of trust from her supporters when she refused to return to Malta from Brussels as a crisis unfolded in the Nationalist Party. Roberta Metsola won’t just lose the trust of her local colleagues and supporters, she may very well lose her own political party that will eventually be broken into pieces.
