Alex Borg was yesterday spotted in a very celebratory mood among friends after the Nationalist Party Leader Bernard Grech had just resigned. Borg is gunning for the leadership of the Nationalist Party with the backing of Adrian Delia and his faction, but faces major opposition from most of the other MPs and top-level party members.
Last year, we released a story stating that Alex Borg has ambitions for the PN leadership and is being backed by Adrian Delia. Both Alex Borg and Adrian Delia repeatedly denied this story. Things have quickly unraveled since then.
Alex Borg is favoured by the Labour Party for being soft on corruption and also deluding himself into being a viable Opposition Leader. There are also suspicions that Joseph Muscat’s crew is also indirectly working with Alex Borg. Adrian Delia was appointed as a lawyer of the Malta Professional Football Clubs Association by Joseph Muscat. Labour Party propogandists openly support Adrian Delia. Joe Giglio is also a supporter of Alex Borg so are the most erratic and mercenary elements of Labour. Borg has regularly attacked his PN colleagues who protested for the rule-of-law.
Alex Borg lied about the Fort Chambray project, regularly praises Gozitan construction developers and even adopted the government’s narrative on its Fort Chambray project. He was also rapped by the Commissioner for standards in Public Life for deliberately lying in parliament about a public contract.
There are many regular displays of obtuse narcissism in Maltese politics, but rarely have we ever seen such a brazen display of delusion of grandeur by an underwhelming and incompetent politician who thinks that he can lead the nation and become a statesman. The man has barely even worked in his life, but has ambitions of becoming a Prime Minister.
This story could have been incredibly hilariousย if Alex Borg faced a serious contender for the leadership post, but Alex Borg may very well become the next PN leader. His delusion mainly stems from the fact that he is very popular in Gozo.
Yet, Gozitan politics is a world of its own and is not a reflection of what the Maltese are aspiring to. On many historical occasions, Gozo also took the opposing position of the historic trend such as by remaining conservative when Malta became more liberal.
It’s highly unlikely Roberta Metsola takes on the leadership of the Nationalist Party, and without any serious challengers, Alex Borg may have a very good chance of making a national mockery of himself while destroying what’s left of the Nationalist Party.
