The opinion of the Gozitans on Alex Borg doesn’t matter: ultimately, PN is losing

A survey published today by a Maltese press outlet confirmed our story that Labour is up against the Nationalist Party by more than 20,000 votes. Labour has actually increased its support and we cited improvements in the National Health Service as one of the reasons for this resurgence in support of the government.

On the other hand, there are negative factors which are eating away at PN’s support and one of them is Alex Borg whose main support base is Gozo. Following Alex Borg’s support of the government’s plan to handover Fort Chambray to property developers, PN lost the support of environmentalists and NGOs and this can likely be confirmed by the rising support to third-parties such ADPD and Momentum.

Ultimately, as a newbie in politics Alex Borg seems to refuse to acknowledge that garnering the support of PN members is not enough to win a general election. Maybe, he does understand this and he is not even interested in seeing PN winning, and is instead more inclined to look after his interests by positioning himself as a potential contender for the PN leadership.

Alex Borg may be drunk on his own success after winning 6108 votes in the last general election on the 13th district. That’s a very impressive number for a Maltese politician in a single district, but the 13th Gozitan electoral district is not a reflection of the opinion of the Maltese in the mainland. On the contrary, it may even be a counter-indicator given that Gozitans have a higher insular and conservative mindset than the mainland Maltese.

    I do not understand why you are taking this position against Alex Borg. He might not be perfect, like everyone else, but by being in favor of the Chambray project in principle as opposed to leave it there to crumble, does not mean that he has betrayed Gozitans or the PN. If all the other Nationalist MPs and candidates work as hard as Alex, then the election will be an open race. But not everyone is working hard enough to convince voters that a PN government will be a better alternative to a Labour government. And what about the leader’s ratings? Is Alex Borg also to blame for that?

    Alex Borg works hard both for Gozo and Malta too, and he is a major
    asset for the progress of the PN. However, unfortunately not all PN candidates work as hard and determined as him. Adrian Delia is also a determined and courageous hard worker. These are the two star PN shadow ministers. They should be an example to their colleagues.

    Your primary analysis is flawed. PN are loosing not because of Dr Borg but in spite of. Because ultimately the electorate knows that within PN he is the exception not the rule. Ultimately people like Dr Borg are possibility what can make former PN voters return. The people that swing an election result are tired of the stagnant politics of ‘oppose everything’. So far PN is failing miserably to address this. Try as one may it is impossible to see PN as an alternative government just a troupe of nay sayers.

      What is PN ‘oppose everything’ mean?? What are they opposing?? The magisterial inquiry?? That is good that they are opposing these shameful acts by the labour but on other issues PN is silent! Environment, growth in population…etc. They are corrupt and much of the same as PL and the majority know this!
