Fourth sea turtle nest confirmed in Gozo as conservation efforts pay off

A fourth loggerhead turtle nest has been confirmed early this morning at Ramla l-Ħamra bay in Gozo – the second nest this season at this protected site. The turtle, identified as Johanna, was observed at around 1 a.m. by Nature Trust volunteers while patrolling near the third nest. This is Johanna’s second nest this season, highlighting the ongoing importance of Malta’s conservation efforts.

Officials from ERA and Nature Trust responded swiftly to the sighting and confirmed the presence of a new nest after the third was found on 18th June.  Two other nests have been recorded earlier this season at Għadira and Ġnejna.

Members of the public are urged to report any turtle or nest sightings by calling ERA on 22923500 or Nature Trust on 99999505. Volunteers can offer support by emailing turtle.ramla@gmail.com.
