According to the Court which handed life sentences to the Maksar brothers, Adrian and Robert Agius, who supplied the bomb that killed Daphne Caruana Galizia, their financial assets were not seized because the prosecutor failed to present evidence in Court regarding those financial assets.
A similar outcome took place with regard to Yorgen Fenech’s assets in his ongoing case, coincidentally also involving the same prosecutor. It is also highly that Yorgen Fenech will get to keep his assets due to the prosecution’s failure to list and quantify his assets.
Adrian and Robert Agius even sold a house while they were arrested. They were initially arrested in near their villas in Baฤงrija and have an extensive history of laundering their criminal proceedings. Apart from supplying bombs to hitmen they were also known drug traffickers. Their criminal career and history of money laundering was also cited in Court by the prosecutor.
Although prosecutors were aware of the Maksar brothersโ history of money laundering, there has still been no investigation to identify, quantify, and list their assets for eventual confiscation. Prosecutors and the Police can still open a new and separate case against the Tal-Maksar brothers to ensure the confiscation of their assets.
