An extensive investigation published in the Times of Malta and Amphora Media today has revealed that the authorities didn’t execute an assets freeze on the Maksar brothers despite having a ledger of their assets that listed up to €9 million in real-estate alone. The investigation also states that the brothers have been protected and covered-up by politicians and police officers.
The brothers seem to have transferred some of their assets to their family members with Robert Agius seemingly transferred properties to his wife, Denise Agius, and also used her as his front to apply for loans and conduct business.
The brothers who are spending life sentences in prison for being part of a criminal gang, and suppling the bomb that killed Daphne Caruana Galizia, still have their assets at their disposal. They also sold a house while awaiting trial.
Their Court sentence cited that the prosecutor failed to bring up evidence about their assets.
