That Charlon Gouder was appointed to a government board by Minister Anton Refalo is not an isolated occurrence. In the same board, you’ll find the Prime Minister’s brother-in-law, Albert Zerafa among other Labour Party associates.
The appointments seem to be part of an ongoing re-organisation by the Labour Party to prepare for its election campaign in Gozo. Coinciding with this appointment, Joseph Muscat’s personal propogandist, Neville Gafa, has been provided with office space at the office of the Foundation for Social Welfare Services in Xewkija, Gozo. That Neville Gafa is in Gozo campaigning for the Labour Party is not something enabled by a single Minister, but it’s coming directly from the centre of the Party.
That the Labour Party is as desperate to bring back Neville Gafa into its fold is probably a sign of significant weakness. It’s also a reaction to Alex Borg’s continued success in Gozo and a sign that Labour is definitely losing ground.
Fundamentally, by allowing Neville Gafà to once again be active within the Labour Party, the Prime Minister is demonstrating that his distance from Joseph Muscat and his faction is merely cosmetic and driven by convenience, rather than by moral or political principles. It shows that if Prime Minister Robert Abela is at a point of losing, he has no qualms turning to Malta’s worst criminals for help and support to remain in power.
