Russia lays its eyes on the Baltics as it seeks victory in talks with Donald Trump

In a separate statement from the one issued by European leaders confirming their support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity ahead of a meeting between President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, the Nordic and Baltic nations declared, in similar terms, that borders cannot be changed by force. The statement was signed by Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine will not give any territory to Russia and that it is up to Russia to stop its illegal war. President Zelensky also reiterated his position that any peace should come with long-lasting security guarantees and also highlighted the NATO membership option which Ukraine considers highly valuable.

The US press is also reporting that the White House is considering to invite President Zelensky for the meeting on Friday but this has not been confirmed yet. President Trump has backed down from his trheat to put new sanctions and tariffs on countries purchasing Russian oil prior to his meeting with Putin, canceling a previous deadline he imposed on Putin to end the war.

The Russian press is ecstatic over the meeting reporting it as a diplomatic victory for Vladimir Putin who is seeking to legitimise his illegal war and Russia’s territorial conquests in Ukraine.

Russian propagandists are already discussing a potential Russian invasion of the Baltic states. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are all currently augmenting their military and strengthening their borders with Russia as concerns increase over a potential Russian invasion against the three countries. Russia has recently also started sending unarmed drones to the Baltics inย  provocative testing maneuvers ahead of military exercises in Belarus.
