The US Government is ready to facilitate gas deals for Malta

In a meeting held in September between Malta’s Foreign Minister Ian Borg and US government cabinet officials including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Energy Secretary Chris Wright, the US government confirmed to the Maltese delegation that it could facilitate gas deals to Malta’s needs. The US government also confirmed that the US gas industry is capable of executing delivery to Malta.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also passed on this information to the Ministry for Energy.

Details about the meeting were not published but are only coming to light after Malta nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Malta purchases electricity from Electrogas which purchases gas from Socar with an agreement that expires next year. Enemalta also purchases its own gas supplies to run Delimara 3 plant with Shanghai Electric. More details can be found here.
