More discussions about potential discussions about European borders: this time at a Miami golf club

There were more discussions about Europe’s borders with Russia yesterday, this time at a golf club in Hallandale Beach, Florida, Miami. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio hosted the Ukrainian delegation with Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, First Deputy Foreign Minister Serhiy Kyslytsia, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Olha Stefanishyna, and Andriy Hnatov from the Chief of the General Staff. Secretary Rubio was accompanied by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Andriy Yermak who previously headed these discussions was not present after he was forced to resign in the wake of a corruption scandal involving members of the President cabinet.

To press reporters Secretary Rubio said that:

“The end goal is obviously not just the end of the war, obviously that’s essential and fundamental, but it’s also about securing an end to the war that leaves Ukraine sovereign and independent and with an opportunity of real prosperity. So this is not just about peace deals, it’s about creating a pathway forward that leaves Ukraine sovereign, independent, and prosperous.”

Rustem Umerov said that his delegation is working for peace, ensuring Ukraine’s interests and is in constant contact with President Zelensky.

The US is putting pressure on Ukraine to capitulate to Russia by forcing it to accept to Russia’s demands namely giving up the Donbas region, limit the size of its army and no NATO membership. Ukraine insists that it will make no territorial concessions. Russia is pairing the diplomatic pressure by increasing its barrage of drone and missile attacks against Ukrainian civilians.

Ukraine’s Ambassador to Ukraine (and previous head of the armed forces) ย said that any quick peace deal with Russia would only pause the war until it is renewed again. He states that Russia has to be defeated decisively, by using both economic and military means to end once and for all its constant and historical imperialist aggression.
