The Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dimitry Medvedev has praised the US National Security Strategy as a positive step in comments he made publicly. Medvedev said that the the US security strategy agrees with what Russia has been saying that security in Europe “should be shared with Russia”.
The Under-Secretary of War Elbridge Colby also praised the newly released document. Colby was previously responsible for cutting US military aid to Ukraine.
The US National Security Strategy calls on Europe to stabilise and normalise ties with Russia. The policy was released just as the US is trying to force Ukraine to accept Russia’s demands for capitulation including territorial concessions and restricting the size of its army. The newly published US strategy also calls for political interference in Europe against the established and democratically-ruling governments. The new policy aligns with the actions of US government officials who are openly backing pro-Russian and far-right parties in Europe such as the German AFD.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin’s supporters and its propagandists in Russia remain consistent with their intentions and their imperialist perceptions about Russia and its relations with Europe and the outside world. The Kremlin and its supporters believe that they are in imperialist confrontation with Europe which they want to win decisively and on a long-term basis. These imperialist intentions were echoed by the head of the Council for Foreign and Defence Policy Sergey Karaganov who said that Russia wants to destroy Europe.
