Blackout in Ukraine and Moldova

Ukraine is under complete blackout after Russia successfully struck many essential parts of Ukraine’s electric infrastructure. The blackout is ongoing during harsh Winter conditions and temperatures below minus fifteen degrees Celsius.

Russia also kept shelling and striking Ukrainian cities despite a supposed “ceasefire” declared by President Trump. However, no airstrikes have been reported over Kyiv during the weekend so far.

Russia has used Ukrainian civilians as hostages for their diplomatic negotiations brokered by the US which are mainly aimed at Ukraine’s capitulation and its surrender of the Donbas region. By escalating its attacks on Ukrainian civilians durign negotiations, Russia aims to put pressure on the Ukrainian government to accept any condition it is offered in order to halt the War.

The European Union is increasing its aid to Ukraine to address its electricity shortfall.

A blackout has also been reported across many parts of Moldova including in the capital city of Chisinau with its electricity grid negatively affected with the Ukrainian crisis.
