French Minister of Defence travels to Kyiv as Russia bombs Ukraine’s nuclear power plants

France’s Minister of Defence Catherine Vautrin travelled to Kyiv with a military delegation just as Russia bombed Ukraine’s nuclear power plant facilities and the electric power grid in an overnight attack. Russia is putting pressure on Ukraine by leaving its civilians without electricity during the sub-zero temperatures of Winter.

President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked France for its military support and said that discussions revolved around military support and deliveries and Ukraine’s participation in the new EU military joint-procurement mechanism SAFE.

France pledged up to 100 F4 Rafaele fighter jets to Ukraine last November, none of which have been reported to have been delivered yet. France is however increasing its military support to Ukraine and is also providing most of its foreign intelligence.

Explosions have been reported in the Port of Novorossiysk earlier during the night. The port was yesterday by Russian naval vessels to fire cruise missiles at Ukraine. Ukraine is still managing to successfully conduct offensive operations against Russia despite its current challenges.
