NGO Moviment Graffitti is currently conducting a campaign to pressure the Public Broadcasting Services to withdraw its official participation from the Eurovision Song Contest. The calls for boycott are being made due to Israel’s participation and Moviment Graffitti is arguing that Israel should be banned in he Eurovision over its genocide in Gaza. The group also says that Israel should be banned after Russia was also banned for its war in Ukraine.
Some countries have pledged to boycott Eurovision this year over Israel’s participation, including Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Iceland. The Maltese government has refused calls to boycott the music event and is committed to participate.
Moviment Graffitti said that they will organise another protest in Vallettas on February 21st.
Although Moviment Graffitti have support from different groups for their Eurovision boycott campaign, Moviment Graffitti’s activities on foreign affairs is based from the perspective of on “Anti-US imperialism” and “Anti-Zionism”. Recently, Moviment Graffitti issued a statement of “solidarity” with Iranian protestors getting killed by the Islamic regime while stating that the group is also in solidarity with protestors “struggling with Western Imperialism”.
Israel is still conducting irregular airstrikes on Gaza, with airstrikes during the weekend reported in Khan Younis while gunfire was reported in Bejt Lahiya. Israel is also controlling the flow of aid into Gaza,ย while Hamas is refusing to disarm.
