Prime Minister to bulldoze with Chief Justice nomination in Parliament despite no support by the Opposition

Interviewed earlier today by Net News, Prime Minister Robert Abela confirmed that he will be pushing ahead with a parliamentary motion, nominating Judge Consuelo Scerri Herrera for Chief Justice. The Prime Minister is pushing ahead with the nomination despite no support by the Opposition: the appointment needs a two-thirds majority support of Members of Parliament.

The Prime Minister is effectively wasting everyone’s time and bullying Parliament to accept a de facto personal dictatorship: the Prime Minister wants to appoint his own friend and ally in one of the most important State roles, and he wants everyone to accept his fait accompli without any discussion.

The Labour government already holds absolute control over the Office of the Attorney General and the Police. Acquiring the role of the Chief Justice will ensure Labour’s absolute control over the Justice system and Malta’s turn into a dictatorship. The Prime Minister isn’t even trying to pretend that he is following democratic custom or national consensus: he is imposing his own personal dictatorship on Malta blatantly and very explicitly.

Mark you are not getting the gist of it all! Abelโ€™s doesnโ€™t want Consuela as Chief Justice and is doing everything possible to sabotage her nomination! There might be pressure from JM for her nomination and he is totally against it. Of course he will put her nomination through Parliament as itโ€™s a guarantee that she will fail.
