Officials from the leadership of the Nationalist Party have spoken to The Maltese Herald and denied that the party has proposed Judge Edwina Grima for the role of Chief Justice as a compromise candidate. Nationalist Party sources have also denied that there is any compromise agreement over the position of Chief Justice involving the nomination of Judge Edwina Grima.

Yesterday in Parliament, the Speaker Anฤกlu Farrugia shot down a government-motion to nominate Judge Consuelo Scerri Herrera for Chief Justice. The Opposition and the government have been instructed by the House to renew negotiations for a candidate to the post.
