Nationalist Party sources deny that party is proposing Judge Edwina Grima

Officials from the leadership of the Nationalist Party have spoken to The Maltese Herald and denied that the party has proposed Judge Edwina Grima for the role of Chief Justice as a compromise candidate. Nationalist Party sources have also denied that there is any compromise agreement over the position of Chief Justice involving the nomination of Judge Edwina Grima.

Earlier today, MaltaToday published a story stating that the Nationalist Party agrees with the potential nomination of Judge Edwina Grima for Chief Justice. MaltaToday previously published an opinion piece in favour of the nomination of Judge Consuela Scerri Herrera. Times of Malta has also followed up and confirmed MaltaToday’s report.

Yesterday in Parliament, the Speaker Anġlu Farrugia shot down a government-motion to nominate Judge Consuelo Scerri Herrera for Chief Justice. The Opposition and the government have been instructed by the House to renew negotiations for a candidate to the post.
