Sudanese politician and previous Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok has been in London, the UK, in his latest stop of his European tour. Abdallah Hamdok forms part of the Sumoud coalition which is financed and funded by the United Arab Emirates and advocates for a peace deal with the militia in Darfur, Sudan, that is currently committing a genocide: the Rapid Support Forces.
The RSF are currently being investigated for crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court. Sudanese de facto President General Abdel Fatah al-Burhan stated that there won’t be peace in Sudan until the RSF are eliminated.
In the UK, Hamdock met with several British MPs and also UK Minister for Development & Africa Jenny Chapman with Norway’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik (feature photo).
Hamdok’s peace tours to Europe and his calls for a ceasefire have often coincided with striking military defeats of the RSF which his coalition supports. The Sudanese Armed Forces have recently made striking victories against the RSF in Al-Dilling and Kadugli in Kordofan. The SAF’s progress comes after the UAE weapons transport routes to the RSF have been restricted partly by US pressure.
Hamdok’s presence in London was met with protests by the Sudanese diaspora who accuse him of being complicit in the ongoing genocide in Darfur. This is not the first time that his presence in London was met with opposition by the Sudanese. The political affiliates of the RSF occasionally conduct whitewashing political tours in Europe which are often met with protests.
