Sudanese in London protest sham conference with Emirati representatives

Yesterday in London, the Sudanese community protested against a sham peace conference on Sudan that included representatives from the United Arab Emirates but excluded representatives from the Sudanese government. The United Arab Emirates are the main military and financial sponsor of the genocidal Rapid Support Forces who are conducting a terror campaign against Sudanese civilians. Currently, the RSF are conducting massacres at Zamzam camp outside El-Fashir.

The conference in London, hosted by UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, welcomed European Foreign Ministers including France’s Jean-Noรซl Barrot and Germany’s Annalena Baerbock. The conference ended with a joint-statement signed by the EU, the UK, France, Germany and the African Union which calls on both parties to avoid inflammatory rhetoric and enter into peace talks. The statement also affirmed the territorial sovereignty of Sudan. Separately, the US government made a brief and similar statement. However, the United Arab Emirates issued a completely different statement and warned that Sudan should not “become once again a safe-haven for terrorism”.

The RSF, which the UAE supports, is the main perpetrator of terrorism in Sudan apart from being responsible for some of the most horrific war crimes in Africa since the genocide in Rwanda.

The Sudanese government, which has just liberated the capital city of Khartoum from the RSF, has vowed to retake the remaining areas in the west of the country currently under the control by the RSF and Janjaweed militias. The RSF regularly retaliates against civilians after it suffers military defeats at the hands of the Sudanese Army.
