The Telegraph is reporting that Sky News has withdrawn its license to the Emirati state-owned media company International Media Investments (IMI). IMI uses the Sky News branding to run its own Sky News Arabia. It also runs CNN Business Arabic. The Telegraph is reporting that the withdrawal of the license was made in late last year and that the license will remain effective until its expiry in 2027 with no renewal.
In November of last year, a Sky News Arabia newscaster travelled to Al-Fashir, in Sudan and was filmed hugging the RSF war-criminal, Shiraz Khalid. The Sky News Arabia newscaster, Tsabih (Tasabih) Mubarak Khater, travelled to Al-Fashir to whitewash the ethnic cleansing committed by the RSF in the city. Tens of thousands of people were massacred by the RSF after they captured the city of Al-Fashir with estimates of at least 27.000 people dead and many more missing. The Sky News Arabia newscaster took footage of children and women receiving humanitarian aid in Al-Fashir portraying the RSF as a legitimate governing body that was also addressing the people’s needs.
The UAE is the main sponsor and backer of the RSF and is using the proxy militia to carve out its influence and power over Sudan and the region. Weapons transfers by the UAE to the RSF have not abated despite the ongoing war in Iran and the regular drone attacks on the UAE.
