Previous Governor of Darfur claims up to 27,000 civilians killed in Al-Fashir: US and UAE hold talks about Sudan again

In an interview given to the Middle East Eye the previous and current (de jure) Governor of Darfur, Minni Minnawi said that up 27,000 people were killed by the Rapid Support Forces after they captured the city of Al-Fashir around October 26th, and that he also lost some family members. The Sudanese Armed Forces claimed that up to 7,000 civilians were killed and up to 3,000 civilians have been confirmed killed by aid-workers, witnesses and documented evidence. Tens of thousands remain unaccounted for.

Speaking to the Turkish public broadcaster, Minni Minnawi also said that the RSF wouldn’t be able to operate without the UAE’s backing. He also said that British weapons had found in the hands of the RSF.

Yesterday, the US State Secretary Marco Rubio once again spoke to the Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahyan and discussed the situation in Sudan. The State Secretary previously urged the UAE to cut weapons supplies to the RSF. The UAE is the major weapons supplier and backer of the RSF.

Minnawi also said that in order to negotiate with the RSF, one had to actually speak to the UAE.

The Maltese Herald is currently conducting a campaign to free Muammar Ibrahim who is being held captive by the RSF.
