Sudanese General Burhan accuses the US of imposing conditions on Sudan proposed by the United Arab Emirates

In a press conference held yesterday, the Sudanese Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan accused the US of dictating to Sudan, proposals it was handed to it by the United Arab Emirates. The General was speaking about negotiations with the Quad Group involving the United States, the UAE, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

President Trump has directed his attention at Sudan following the insistence by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman to find a solution for the war.

The General said that Massad Boulos handed a proposal to Sudan’s Sovereignty Council  to dissolve the army and its security entities. The General added that the proposal allowed for the existence of the Rapid Support Forces and rejected it outright. He also said that the UAE should no longer be part of the Quad and serve as a mediator given that it is fueling the war itself. The UAE is the major backer and arms supplier of the RSF.

The Sudanese General heading the Sudanese Armed Forces also said that there will be no political solution that involves the RSF and insisted that the RSF had to be dismantled. He stressed that the RSF will no longer form part of official state structures.

The General also denied accusations by the US accusing the SAF of denying aid and using chemical weapons saying these were accusations that originated by the UAE. The US accused the SAF of using chemical weapons and after it struck a large deal with the UAE over weapons sales.

The RSF have begun insisting on a ceasefire only after capturing the city of Al-Fashir.

General Burhan has recently called on mass mobilisation to defeat the RSF following their ethnic cleansing in Al-Fashir.
