A large drone from Belarus crashed in Lithuania in the Varėna district near the village of Lavysas last Monday morning. Lithuanian press reports state that that the Lithuanian Army activated its emergency response and the Lithuanian Prime Minister called an emergency meeting of the National Security Commission.
Lithuania has been occasionally targeted by Russian drones from Belarus and Belarus has also flew balloons across the border with Belarusian President Lukashenko saying that the balloons carried contraband cigarettes and they were justified for sanctions against Belarus.
Russia has been targeted Poland and the Baltics with drone transgressions and other hybrid attacks.
Recently, Lithuania has also increased the presence of NATO troops in the country as part of a broader widening of European defences on the eastern borders.
