The Deputy-Commander of the army of the government of Benghazi, Saddam Haftar, made a very and highly unusual request to the Maltese government before coming to Malta. In preparations to his visit to Malta, Saddam Haftar made the indecent request to also meet with the disgraced ex-Prime Minister Joseph Muscat before meeting top government officials. We have confirmed this from government officials.
Saddam Haftar met with the Minister of Interior Byron Camilleri before meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister Ian Borg.
The request by Haftar to meet Joseph Muscat is highly irregular and very unusual and the Prime Minister should have not tolerated this request.
Khalifa Haftar’s money-man, Ahmed Gadalla has also used Malta to open his companies and launder his wealth and the lawyers who helped him set up in Malta are also Joseph Muscat’s friends and associates – and they most probably acquired their Libyan contact through Joseph Muscat himself.
Saddam Haftar has nothing to discuss with Joseph Muscat other than potential business and corrupt deals. Joseph Muscat has no official role with the government.
By allowing these highly irregular meetings, Prime Minister Robert Abela is not only humiliating himself, he is also humiliating the Maltese State. Malta is not and and should not be a playground for shady business between dictatorial regimes and corrupt politicians.
We have reached a new low.
