Joseph Muscat receives Saddam Haftar in highly irregular meeting

Disgraced former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has received Saddam Haftar, the Deputy-Commander of the Khalifa Haftar’s armed forces at his public office in Saint Maison.

Saddam Haftar and his father, Khalifa Haftar, run eastern Libya via an illegal government and an armed military force, and are involved in extensive oil trafficking and United Nations sanctions-violations. They are also close military allies to Russia and Belarus and host Russian military units along with Belorussian and North Korean personnel in eastern Libya. They are also involved in multiple human rights violations including the torture and imprisonment of dissidents and Opposition figures. Khalifa Haftar is also involved in a war against Sudan.

Khalifa Haftar’s money man has recently been exposed as Ahmed Gadalla, and he also makes use of Malta to move his money.

The visit is highly unusual because Joseph Muscat does not hold any diplomatic and official role by the Maltese government. However Joseph Muscat has published a statement that mimics an official diplomatic statement.

The Maltese government has not issued a statement.

  1. The wearing of uniform by any foreign military personnel in Malta is subject to permission granted by the MFA. Was such permission granted or even asked for? In addition, the title of Prime Minister Emeritus doesn’t exist, it’s an affectation only used by Muscat. Emeritus means honourably retired and thus still able to use the title. Muscat slunk off like a whipped cur.
